PEACEFUL ABIDING, CB WHEELS OF INTENTION 2022

Partnering with friends at the Sherpa Cafe in Crested Butte, this interactive community project honors the tradition of prayer wheels in Buddhist culture. Peaceful abiding invites you to experience your environment as a participant; as a steward; as a neighbor. All organisms and energies are interconnected and thrive in relationship. As the moon cycles each month, it pulls on water throughout the landscape and our bodies. Two auspicious symbols overlay the total apexes. The Endless Knot on the New Moon represents cycles of life and death, without a beginning nor end. The Golden Wheel on the Full Moon represents the potential present in all sentient beings. These phases undulate as frequencies in harmony with our landscape. While sharing time & space we may focus on peaceful energy.

Prayer flags present powerful energy with their symbolism through five colorful elements (sky, air, fire, water and earth). As they are weathered by the environment, they release blessings, similar to the prayer wheel as it spins. The unification of our cultural values can be celebrated through our love of the mountains. A pillar of resilience and fortitude; mountains welcome adventure and freedom. Each unique, yet universal and essential to how we understand and experience community within our environment. Elevated by mountaintops, we reflect on our experiences in tranquility and awe. Mount Crested Butte overlooks our Town here in Colorado. The other peak, Ama Dablam, translates as “Mother’s Necklace” overlooking Dingboche in Nepal (hometown of our Sherpa friends).

This wheel, along with seven others are installed throughout the Town of Crested Butte as an interactive public art tour. More info: cbwheelsofintention.org

Community Radio Station KBUT also supported this project’s theme; connecting people to place harmoniously. A broadcast interview about the project can be listened to below.
