See Trees is an immersive aspen grove with eyes to the multiverse! Exploring the threshold between known and unknown, See Trees invites participants to be curious and look at their environment through new eyes. This site-specific installation situates the audience as both a voyeur and vulnerable subject through an evolution of plant intelligence and juxtaposition of scale and materials. Beyond exploring paranoia and fantasy, See Trees provokes wonder in participants and inspires them to see more than surface.
The See Trees grove is customizable to fit both indoor and remote outdoor spaces that people of all ages will discover. Viewers may dwell in the shadows / lights and with close examination of an aspen’s eye, a portal to the internal realm where a unique scene is found. Internal trunk space holds power for rewarding discovery and creating experiences. Something as unassuming as a tree in a forest might possess an entire universe within; things may not always be what they seem!
What do the trees see?
See Trees has a self-sufficient build plan with massive potential for participation, performance, and customization. The aspens are constructed of varnished papier-mâché reinforced by an interconnected steel skeleton and fabric canopy. This installation presents a balance between known/unknown and situates the audience as both a voyeur and vulnerable subject, exploring paranoia and surveillance. We invite you to examine your relationship to nature in modern society. Pondering questions of a multi-faceted universe; in what ways might lifeforms relate and communicate to each other and what stories do we all share?
